About This Statistic
The Global Gender Gap Index measures gender-based gaps in economic participation, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. A score of 1.0 would indicate perfect gender parity.
Iceland has topped the rankings for over a decade, with strong policies supporting women in the workforce and politics. Northern European countries consistently perform well due to parental leave policies, affordable childcare, and cultural attitudes.
Progress toward gender parity has been slow globally, with the economic gender gap estimated to take over 150 years to close at current rates. The COVID-19 pandemic set back progress in many countries.
Methodology
Composite index of 14 indicators across economic, educational, health, and political dimensions.
