What Makes a Password Strong?
A strong password has high entropy - a measure of randomness and unpredictability. Entropy is calculated based on password length and the size of the character set used. A 16-character password using uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols has about 105 bits of entropy.
Why does this matter? A password with 100+ bits of entropy would take billions of years to crack with current technology, even with the most powerful supercomputers running brute-force attacks.

A password is a random string of characters (like 'xK9#mP2$nL'). A passphrase is made of random words (like 'correct-horse-battery-staple'). Passphrases are often easier to remember while still being very secure. A 6-word passphrase has comparable security to a 16-character random password.
