Share of population using the Internet

This statistic shows the share of a country’s population that used the Internet in 2023 (as a percentage). The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) compiles household/individual ICT survey results from national statistical systems and regulators, then produces harmonized and modelled estimates to ensure comparability across countries.

It’s a useful snapshot of digital inclusion: countries with near-universal use tend to have robust infrastructure, affordability, and digital skills, while lower values often reflect gaps in coverage, device access, affordability, or literacy. The metric is commonly used to track progress toward universal and meaningful connectivity, but it can mask disparities within countries (urban/rural, gender, income, age).
