Key Findings
  • Work-from-home prevalence varies widely across countries, reflecting the share of teleworkable occupations and digital readiness.
  • High-income economies in Northern/Western Europe and North America tend to show much higher ‘any WFH’ shares than low-income countries.
  • Small island states and low-income agrarian economies typically show very low WFH shares because employment is concentrated in on-site work.
  • Even in countries with high WFH adoption, the measure does not imply most workers are remote full-time—hybrid arrangements dominate.

About This Statistic

This statistic measures the share of employees who reported working from home at least sometimes in 2023. It captures the prevalence of telework/remote work arrangements in each country’s employed population, reflecting differences in job structure, digital infrastructure, commuting patterns, and labor-market regulation.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) compiles and harmonizes national labor force survey (LFS) data where available and produces modeled estimates to improve cross-country comparability and coverage. Because survey wording and measurement can vary, the values are best interpreted as a standardized, internationally comparable indicator of “any work from home” rather than a strict measure of full-time remote work.
