About This Statistic
This statistic measures the share of adults (ages 15+) who report using the internet to pay bills or to buy something online during the past 12 months. It captures a practical, behavior-based dimension of digitalization—how often people actually complete online transactions, not just whether they have internet access.
The measure comes from the World Bank’s Global Findex Database (2021 edition), a large, nationally representative survey. It is useful for comparing digital commerce adoption across countries and highlighting gaps driven by infrastructure, affordability, trust, payment systems, and regulation.
