About This Statistic
Net forest depletion is the product of estimated unit resource rents and the amount by which roundwood harvest exceeds natural forest growth. Dividing by gross national income makes the burden more comparable across economies of different sizes.
A zero value can mean no estimated excess harvest or no measured depletion rent. The indicator is an accounting estimate rather than a direct satellite measure of forest-cover loss.
Methodology
World Bank indicator NY.ADJ.DFOR.GN.ZS. Net forest depletion equals unit resource rent times roundwood harvest in excess of natural growth, divided by GNI and multiplied by 100. Only non-null 2021 ISO-country observations are retained; no zeroes or missing values are synthesized.
