Key Insights
- •A wide cross-country gap remains between near-universal Internet use in many high-income economies and much lower use in several low-income and conflict-affected states.
- •Small island states and Gulf countries often report very high usage rates, reflecting strong mobile broadband penetration.
- •Several large middle-income countries cluster in the 60–85% range, indicating rapid adoption but still meaningful offline populations.

About This Statistic
This statistic measures the percentage of individuals in each country who used the Internet in the last 3 months, expressed as a share of the total population. It is one of the most widely comparable indicators of digital inclusion, capturing both access and actual use (not just availability of infrastructure).
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) compiles official country-reported survey data where available and produces modelled estimates to ensure broad international coverage and comparability. Differences across countries reflect affordability, mobile broadband coverage, device access, digital skills, and policy environment—making the indicator a useful proxy for broader participation in modern education, labor markets, public services, and online commerce.
