Key Insights
- •Adult obesity prevalence varies dramatically across countries, from low single digits in several Asian countries to well above 30% in many high-income and some middle-income countries.
- •Small-island and Gulf states tend to have among the highest estimated obesity prevalence in the dataset.
- •Many countries now face a dual burden where obesity is rising while undernutrition persists in parts of the population.

About This Statistic
This statistic shows the estimated prevalence of obesity among adults aged 15 years and older, defined by the World Health Organization as body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m². It is a widely used indicator of population health risk, strongly associated with higher rates of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some cancers.
WHO publishes modelled country estimates to improve comparability across countries where measured survey data are infrequent or use different methods. The results should be interpreted as best estimates for the stated year, not as exact counts, and small differences between countries may not be statistically meaningful.
