Key Insights
- •Life satisfaction scores typically range from roughly the low 3s to the high 7s on the 0–10 scale worldwide.
- •Nordic and certain high-income countries tend to cluster toward the top of the distribution in WHR results.
- •Countries facing conflict, severe economic instability, or governance breakdown tend to appear at the bottom of the distribution.
- •Because WHR uses multi-year averages, scores are relatively stable year-to-year compared with many economic indicators.

About This Statistic
This statistic reports each country’s average life evaluation using the Cantril ladder question: people rate their current life on a scale from 0 (worst possible life) to 10 (best possible life). It is one of the most widely used, cross-country comparable measures of subjective well-being.
The World Happiness Report publishes these averages using Gallup World Poll survey data. Country scores are typically based on a multi-year average to reduce year-to-year sampling noise; in the 2024 report, the headline rankings use 2021–2023 averages (even though the report year is 2024).
