About This Statistic
This statistic measures the percentage of adults (age 15+) who report having an account at a bank or another type of financial institution, or who personally use a mobile money service. It is one of the core indicators of financial inclusion and is widely used to track progress toward broader access to formal financial services.
The data come from the World Bank’s Global Findex Database (2021), a large, nationally representative survey fielded in many economies. “Having an account” includes traditional bank accounts as well as accounts at other regulated institutions and mobile money accounts, which can be especially important in countries where branch banking is limited but mobile services are widespread.
